HISTORICAL HOME GOES DUCTLESS IN BARRINGTON, IL

Barrington Historic Home Get Comfortable With Ductless

Homes like this historical Queen Anne in Barrington were built long before central air conditioning was invented. They are beautiful, and the finishes are simply amazing. But like many homes, the attic is especially hard to keep comfortable. Even with central heat and air, attics tend to be freezing in the Winter and boiling hot in the summer. They usually need a separate way to heat and cool them in order to make sure the space is truly functional year-round.

Our homeowners had converted their third-floor attic into living space a number of years ago, using a PTAC- also known as a package terminal air conditioner, to keep the third floor heated and cooled. The PTAC is similar to the all in one units you might see in an older hotel, where the unit can provide heat or air conditioning through one “box” on the floor. Our homeowners were spending a fortune on this inefficient unit to keep the attic warm in the winter, and it was really noisy as well. Our homeowners gave us a call here at Compass Heating and Air Conditioning, looking for a better solution that would provide them with the comfort they craved for their hobby area, without costing a fortune to run.

Problem: The attic space was converted into living space a number of years ago. The old PTAC system was heating the room, but it was expensive to run and it was noisy. They were looking for something that would be quieter and give them better comfort in their hobby area.

Solution: A single zone of Mitsubishi Ductless heating and cooling will ensure that the third-floor hobby space of this home is comfortable year-round, delivering whisper-quiet state of the art comfort.

As soon as we saw the home, we knew that a Mitsubishi ductless Hyper Heat system would give them the quiet comfort they needed, while bringing added efficiency as well, saving them money on energy bills, year-round.
Mitsubishi Electric Ductless Systems can create a separate zone of heating and cooling comfort, wherever they are located! This makes them a great option for hard to heat and cool areas of your home, like basements, sunrooms, bonus rooms over garages, and attics, like in this home in Barrington.

The system is composed of two parts- an outdoor condenser unit and an indoor unit which is mounted up on a wall, out of the way. The outdoor unit can serve as many as 8 indoor wall mounted units, making the system flexible and modular as well. Each indoor unit can be individually controlled, providing the exact comfort you need, right where you need it.

In this case, our homeowners only needed one indoor unit to provide the comfort they needed in the attic hobby space. The unit efficiently distributes hot or cool air throughout the space, while using state of the art sensors to monitor both the temperature and humidity in the room, to ensure perfect comfort throughout. The units also run at only 22db- that’s whisper quiet- making Mitsubishi ductless a perfect solution for any room, but especially bedrooms, offices, tv rooms and nurseries, where quiet comfort is a real plus.
As you can see from the pictures, we were able to install the outdoor condenser unit out of the way, and run the lines right next to the existing gutter- making a close to invisible installation on this picture perfect house- inside and out. This Mitsubishi electric outdoor unit uses super-efficient inverter technology with its heat pump, providing efficient comfort when it’s -15F degrees or even over 100F. This increased efficiency, usually only found on high-end whole home units, allows Mitsubishi Ductless units to deliver heat using the least amount of energy possible, and then it monitors the temperature to make micro-adjustments as needed. This provides maximum comfort while using minimal energy to maintain it. And because the system acts as its own separate zone of comfort, you can shut it off when not in use, saving you additional energy and money in the process!

hat means the hobby room in this Queen Anne home will have the warmth that it needs, even in the dead of Winter, and will also have the cooling it needs in the heat of summer. All our owners will have to to is adjust the settings from the handy remote, and they’ll get the comfort they want in moments, evenly distributed throughout the space, and will make this one of the most comfortable rooms in the home.
