Has your second floor always been too cold? Even when your heater was brand-new and in excellent shape? It’s a common problem, especially in split-level ranch homes and homes with rooms over garages.
No matter how good your forced-air system is, they can’t get the right amount of heat up to the top floor.
If that’s the case, it’s time to consider a heat pump mini split system. You can add a single air handler in the one problem room to finally keep it warm in the winter (and cool in the summer).
Or, add more indoor units to upgrade the comfort throughout your home!
Read more about these systems in our blogs here and here.
Are you unsure if your furnace actually turned on during that first cold day? They don’t run all the time, so it’s easy not to overlook whether it’s actually turning on. You can start troubleshooting at the thermostat.
First, change the batteries. Then make sure your system is set to “Heat” and “Auto.” Then, turn the thermostat up much higher than usual.
This should force the heater to kick on. If there’s someone else in the house, have them stand near the unit to listen for it turning on. If it’s just you, stand near a vent, listen for the motor, and feel for a rush of warm air.
If you get only cold air or nothing at all, give us a call at (630) 504-8688.
